According to the National Safety Council there are over 9 million disabling slip/fall injuries every year; that's 25,000 each day. This accounts for 95 million lost workdays per year. The expense amounts to about 4.0 million dollars per hour every day of the year. Human suffering, time lost, escalating Workmen's Compensation and liability insurance, as well as lawyer's fees has prompted the federal government to address this tremendous problem. Recently enacted federal legislation provides the potential for enormous fines for businesses with injuries due to slip and fall accidents.
It's The Law. In addition to lawsuit damages, the American Disabilities Act provides for penalties of up to $75,000 for first offense and over $100,000.00 for a second offense. 95,000,000 Days Lost From Work! 40% of all work related injuries are slip/fall and account for 70% of time lost from work. We are working with the Safety Council, and OSHA to make sure everyone is educated on this matter, and help them protect themselves. |
